Objective

This UX case study delves into the creation and development of a Proof of Concept (PoC) for the DP World Trade Finance Portal, to craft a paperless financial application tailored for Exporter and Importers within small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The application is designed to streamline the loan application of post-shipment finances.

The focus of this POC project is to demonstrate that the concept works in principle, rather than on building something perfect.

Outcome

Successfully presented the Proof of Concept (POC) to DP World, which resulted in a long-term partnership with DP World. The showcased designs were developed along with new improvements.

Context

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). account for 50% of global trade. However, only 10% of lending from the current financial ecosystem goes to these companies, usually at an excessive cost.

(World Bank)

This means the businesses driving half of world trade cannot access the finance they need to import, export, or grow.

Financial Institutions traditionally see SMEs as high-risk as they rarely have substantial credit histories. As a result, there is a $1.7 trillion trade gap.

At a time of global inflation, this is a vicious circle. Increasing costs are making access to credit even more important and this block to global trade then acts as an inflationary pressure.

Soap Store Owner

The finance portal will serve as a bridge between financial institutions and SMEs, streamlining access to crucial resources.

DP World will bundle its trade finance products with its logistics services, potentially streamlining your trade operations and offering one-stop-shop convenience.

Learnings

Designing for a platform serving users across multiple countries demands thorough understanding of diverse regulations and compliance requirements.

Limiation

Fulfilling both business needs for functionality and legal compliance requirements presents limitations in linking importer and exporter shipment details for trade finance within this project
