Objective

Captivated by the innovative hardware of a Canadian health start-up that can detect hormones from saliva, the app is an exploration on how an app companion could work with the product to help users find meaning from the data and make informed health choices.

Outcome

Build an understanding of the influence of hormone changes and health. The exercise also helped explore data visualisation and scheduling UI.

Context

Hormonal changes can impact various aspects of a woman's life, spanning from puberty to post-menopause. It's not limited to menstrual cycles, pregnancy, or contraception; hormones also contribute to different health conditions, influencing women's experiences throughout various life stages.

Hormone testing is expensive and requires traditional lab-based tests. It's akin to the contrast between checking your heart rate once a year during a doctor's visit and having that information readily available on your wrist at all times.

There's a lack of accessible methods to monitor one's hormonal changes.

Opportunity

Female Athletes

Tracking key hormones like estrogen and progesterone throughout their menstrual cycle can help female athletes optimize their training, diet, and sleep for peak performance.

Transgender

By improving access to hormone testing and tracking, transgender people receiving gender-affirming hormonal therapy would have a greater ability to monitor their progress and optimize their overall health.

Learnings

Users come with nuanced health landscapes. They may not just tackle one condition, but navigate a web of interconnected concerns. Understanding this multifaceted reality is key to designing supportive solutions

Limitation

The app can only analyze hormone data and may not account for the user's complete medical history, potentially affecting the accuracy of insights and recommendations.

Users may misinterpret the app's insights and recommendations, leading to incorrect conclusions or inappropriate self-diagnosis.
